Ingredients

  • 1 can of tuna (5 oz), drained
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 1 green onion, finely sliced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 slices of whole-grain bread
  • 2 slices of cheddar cheese
  • 1 small tomato, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened

Cooking Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the tuna, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, celery, and green onion. Sprinkle in some salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Butter one side of each bread slice. Place one slice, butter-side down, in a skillet over medium heat.
  3. Layer one slice of cheese, followed by the tuna mixture, tomato slices, and then the second cheese slice on top of the bread.
  4. Top with the second bread slice, butter-side up. Cook until the bottom is golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Flip the sandwich and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the other side is golden and the cheese is melted.
  6. Remove from skillet, slice in half if desired, and dive into gooey goodness.

Suggestions

Feeling fancy? Swap cheddar for Swiss or Gruyère. Not a fan of celery? Use pickles instead for a tangy twist. Toast your bread under a broiler if you’re not into skillet cooking, just keep an eye out for burning. Add a sprinkle of paprika for a colorful garnish that says, “I’ve got style!”
